Your skin craves hydration, and with these tips, you can have it looking great in no time!
Drink plenty of water. When your body is dehydrated, the first place it pulls water from is your skin, making it extremely susceptible to becoming dry, rough and flaky. Be sure you stay hydrated. A good rule of thumb is to take your body weight, divide it by 2, and that’s how many ounces of non-caffeinated beverages you should drink daily.
Do not forget to moisturize, and you should aim to moisturize twice a day. Using a heavier product over your moisturizer at night will increase hydration and soften and smooth your skin.
Do not exfoliate more than once a week. When skin is dry, rough and flaky, the first thing we tend to do is scrub away the flaky skin, but over exfoliation will lead to irritation and increase dryness. Use a gentle scrub. One free of beads or grains that will tear skin. Honestly, a warm damp washcloth is more than sufficient to remove dead skin cells.
Do not use products such as toners that contain high levels of alcohol. Alcohol is extremely drying to the skin.
Avoid long, hot showers. I know this one is difficult! But, even though a hot shower feels great, it will cause additional dryness. Try to switch to a warm shower.
When choosing a mask, look for those that offer hydration and moisture. Avoid masks that are made to purify and remove excess oil and blackheads. They are too drying.
